2-Phase Approachto Orthodontics
Two Phases.
One Incredible Smile.
Why we don't like to wait.
How We Apply a 2-Phase Approach for Children & Teens
Conventional wisdom often says, "wait until all the adult teeth are in." But at Vivid Orthodontics, we prefer to lead, not follow. By using a 2-Phase Approach, we can take preventive action to guide your child's natural jaw development. Rather than waiting for problems to fully develop, we intervene early to correct irregularities, often reducing the need for invasive treatments like extractions or surgery later in the teen years. Our approach is aligned with the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, which recommends that every child visit an orthodontist before age 7 for an assessment.

Phase 1 Treatment
Goal: Prevention & Natural Growth Guidance
Think of this as laying the groundwork. In Phase 1, we intervene to harmonize the width of the dental arches and guide the growth of the jaw bones. This “interceptive treatment” creates space for erupting adult teeth and addresses functional issues—like airway obstruction or crossbites—before they become permanent skeletal problems.

Phase 2 Treatment
Goal: Fine-Tuning Your Teen' Smile
This is the “finishing touch.” Because we solved the heavy lifting (jaw alignment) in Phase 1, this second phase is often shorter, simpler, and less invasive. We focus purely on aesthetics and bite precision, using Braces or Invisalign to align the teeth into their perfect, confident position.
